Course objectives:
|
The course deals with the development and current status of Commonwealth countries in international politics. In the first part of the course students will be familiarized with the structure of the Commonwealth, scope and membership types, organs and areas of cooperation within the organization. Subsequently, attention will be directed to the role of the Commonwealth in foreign policy in selected countries and relations between selected countries of the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Attention will also be paid to the general problems of the Commonwealth (the legacy of colonialism, monarchy, religious identity).

Requirements on student
|
Students regularly read assigned texts in Czech and foreign languages and prepare assignments on a regular basis. The assignments are in the form of oral presentations or texts; this will be arranged by mutual agreement between lecturer and students. Assignments will be evaluated by lecturer. Exam (combined) verifies knowledge of presented matter and compulsory literature. By the first day of the semester, a detailed syllabus of the course specifying the requirements and content of the course will be available on Courseware.
